Tickets go on sale Saturday 19th March for Headline Concerts

Tickets for the two headline concerts at The Tall Ships Races 2011–Lerwick, will go on sale on Saturday 19th March at noon, and will be available in person from the Shetland Box Office in Islesburgh Community Centre, by telephone on 01595 74 5555 and online from

The concert on Friday 22nd July, including folk/rock legends The Levellers will cost £20 (£15 concessions) and will provide an opportunity for fans to see The Levellers as part of their Levelling the Land 20th Anniversary Tour.

The concert on Saturday 23rd July, including the global sensation Bjorn Again, performing “the greatest hits of ABBA” will cost £15 (£10 concessions). Both concerts will be held at the Holmsgarth stage and will begin at 6.30pm until late.

The Levellers will be supported on stage with Eat Dr Ape, The Stagger Rats and Oscar Charlie.  These bands, currently based on the UK mainland, feature Shetland musicians in their line-up.  There will also be a full line up of local artists in support of Bjorn Again, including perennial local favourites, No Sweat, and the long awaited return of Shetland’s internationally acclaimed band, Rock Sail & Nails. 

The headline concerts spearhead a fantastic and hugely varied programme of musical events across Holmsgarth, Laurenson Quay and Victoria Pier (over 100 individual performances in total) featuring a wide range of local artists, both Shetland based and those returning especially for the event.   

Fiona Dally, project manager of The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick, said:  “The two headline concerts are the only ticketed events of the entire weekend, and will be complemented by a packed programme of fantastic free entertainment at all our event sites and we encourage people to purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment”. 

“There will be plenty of music, family entertainment, and food & drink over the course of the weekend as well as the superb spectacle of some of the finest seagoing vessels in the world.  Mix that with over 2,100 visiting crew from countries including Russia, Brazil and Norway to name but a few, and Shetland will experience a taste of a truly international event.”

Tickets for the headline concerts including “The Levellers” and “Bjorn Again” will initially be issued as ticket “vouchers” which will have to be exchanged for event wristbands prior to the actual concerts taking place.  Full details on ticket exchange for event wristbands will be issued on the Tall Ships website at prior to the event date.

All other music events will be free at both Holmsgarth and the Victoria Pier stages and at the club marquee, which will run at Laurenson Quay in the evenings, featuring local DJs and visiting DJ, Tam Coyle who is the Resident DJ at “T in the Park”.  A full programme of events and artists performing will be available soon at the event website, and users are invited to sign up for news alerts via our website at for all the latest information.
