Sail Training International visit to review plans

Sail Training International has been visiting Lerwick to discuss with local organisers how plans are progressing ahead of The Tall Ships Races visit to Lerwick, 21-24 July 2011.

During their three-day visit which concludes today, the visiting delegates, Knut Western, the Race Chairman, Paul Bishop, Race Director, Corinne Hitching, Media and Publications Manager and Ron Dadswell, Sail Training International Trustee and Chairman of UK Association of Sail Training Organisations, have been meeting with the local organisers to discuss harbour, social, commercial and crew logistics ahead of this huge event.

Paul Bishop, Sail Training International Race Director said, “we have had a highly successful and enjoyable Tall Ships Races planning visit to Lerwick.  It is quite clear that the Lerwick Port Authority, Shetland Islands Council and other key partners are working closely together to ensure that the young Tall Ships crews from all over the world will have a great time and that the planning in Lerwick is well advanced.”

Peter Malcolmson, Vice Chairman of Shetland Tall Ships 2011 Ltd thanked the team for their visit to the isles, which had been very useful to further develop the plans towards hosting a fantastic visit of The Tall Ships Races next year.  Fiona Dally, Project Manager for The Tall Ships Races-Lerwick added that “it was great to receive positive feedback from the Sail Training International team and it is really exciting to see things coming together with just over 500 days until we welcome ships into Lerwick.”
